Biodiversity loss is both an effect and a cause of serious alterations to the natural environment, and consequently nature conservation policies are becoming increasingly important and the need for their implementation is becoming ever more pressing. The Nature 2000 network is an example and a key point of such policies in Europe, and demands new and more efficient survey and monitoring techniques. The multiplicity of interactions between habitat conservation, species introduction and climate change require improved performance of monitoring methods and data interpretation.
