[ PEARL MUSSELS SAMPLING IN LAKE SANABRIA 2018 ]

In summer 2018 ECOHYDROS collaborated with the group of malacologists in charge of updating the information necessary for the management of the river naiad species (Margaritifera margaritifera) in all the occupied watercourses of Castilla y León included in Natura2000.

Taking advantage of the work to map the funds of Lake Sanabria for the Intensive Biannual Follow-up Program, developed by CHD between 2016 and 2018, several specific days were held using ROV video-recording to locate bioindicator fauna of protected species that inhabit the non-wadeable bottoms of this glacial lake. This technique confirmed the presence of some isolated individuals (2 specimens and 1 recent shell) on the western coast, at depths much deeper than those usually experienced by the species in rivers.
